The online gambling ban in the United States is a very well publicized problem for the online casino industry. One of the difficulties that the sector has suffered with but that is not publicized in the wider media is the fact that many of the most used advertising routes online are also not available for online casinos.
Within the industry, this is cause for much stronger reliance on organic search results and has also caused many of the major brands become quite inventive in some of their marketing tactics.
For example, sites the post about torrents and in this regard facilitate the illegal downloading of music, movies and games have a massive amount of traffic. Usually, these sites only reference the places where files can be downloaded. It has become quite apparent recently that some of the larger casino sites are advertising very heavily on these download sites. Using full page ads and flash heavy video presentations has quickly become the norm in this environment.
Obviously, the conversion rate for this type of traffic would be significantly lower than targeted search traffic but it is certainly interesting nonetheless to see some of the major brand names using this as an avenue to generate new customers.
Whether this graphics heavy approach to advertising in these types of environments is actually working or not for the casinos is extremely difficult to estimate. One thing that will become apparent over time is whether the online casinos keep running these types of ads. This will ultimately be the surest way to gauge their effectiveness.
