Hurricane Sandy Causing Mass Evacuation

Technology SecurityHurricane Sandy has caused mass devastation and those that refused to evacuate when the advice came are now calling for emergency help.

New Jersey saw Hurricane Sandy hit land 24 minutes ago and the area is under a great amount of strain as the emergency services struggle to keep up with the call outs.

As the furious hurricane hit the area it washed away a large section of the Boardwalk in Atlantic City and put the presidential campaign into pause while they deal with the fallout.
Wall street was crippled and the Subway system in New York was crippled by a large deluge of water flowing in from the sea.

A New York State official told Rouletters “We are moving towards the hour when it will be impossible to evacuate”

Weather forecasters and given serious advice that large waves as big as six metres could be bashing into the Chicago lakefront  and over a metre of snow in West Virginia.

Paypal Set to Layoff 325 Staff and 120 Contractors

Technology SecurityPaypal has long held its monopoly as the biggest peer to peer online payments system due in part to the early creation of the company.

In an effort to speed up deployment of new services which will help Paypal keep the crown of Online Payment King they have just announced they plan to Layoff as many as 325 staff and up to 120 worldwide contractors.

This move to slim down operations will allow Paypal to streamline their operation and will help to speed up deployment of new products or services.

Paypal is hoping that this shock news in a time when most online payments companies are adding staff will not affect their long term value and they have made some forward looking statements that only a short term hit will occur.

There are reported to be 117 million active users of Paypal and most of these users are happy with Paypal handling smaller online auction payments or payments between friends.

Nevada South Point Online Poker Licensing Delayed

Justice_Legal_CourtIn the run up to the end of the year when it is hoped the first us facing online poker sites will get a clean bill of health for licensing, there have been a few setbacks in Nevada.

South Point Poker had planned for its real money online poker launching this coming week, buy a setback has hit them and a delay with the tests to see if they will be suitable for licensing could push the Nevada Online Poker launch back as far as December.

Very rigorous testing is in progress and is taking a lot longer than was expected because of slow communication issues with the Nevada Gaming Commission.

The Sportingbet – William Hill talks were apparently only in the very early stages and there was no promise of a solid deal early on.

William Hill is one of the premier brands in the UK for sports betting and tote betting but has managed to shake off its old crusty betting shop image by creating a superb online presence.

Justice_Legal_CourtPayoneer has long been just with Choice Bank in Belize but news is coming through that they are soon to locate in Gibraltar and start offering card to Europeans from Gib instead of Belize.

Payoneer have hand picked a high quality group to head up the Gibraltar team including the world famous ex police officer Mark Taylor as Money Laundering Reporting Officer.

Online Casino Industry in Gibraltar Hit By Spanish Border Problems

Justice_Legal_CourtThe long time dispute between who is entitled to Gibraltar is now starting to take an effect on the Online Casinos whom operate out of Gibraltar.

For many years there has been a dispute between the ownership of Gibraltar that lies on the Iberian coast connected to Spain by a small passage of land which resulted in a complete closure of the border a few decades ago.

Spain is in crisis at the moment though a combination of mass corruption from the top down, general laziness of the Spanish population and the recent collapse of the boom fed real estate industry so they are trying to steal it back from the UK.

Spain keeps very quiet about the two outposts they have in Ceuta and Melilla on the North African coast but are very vocal in making a point that they should have Gibraltar back from the UK.

If Spain could take back Gibraltar from the English it could solve a lot of problems in helping restart the Spanish economy for a while, before Gibraltar was made financially bankrupt in same way Spain is.

Delays of up to 7 hours at the border are happening, such as today when I went to Morrisons to buy some pies and cake at midday but was held up by a large border que round the rock due to the passport control and customs going on a go slow.

Editors note: How you can tell when the Spanish are on a go slow just baffles me.

An Online Casino employee (who wishes to remain anonymous) who works in Gibraltar but resides in Spain told Rouletters ` Yeah its a pain in the butt and its really starting to affect things`.

There is drinking water available from a water bowser at the border crossing and there are medics on hand to help deal with the problems caused by the Spanish bullying, with people coming round to check on the cars while they hand out propaganda leaflets.
