California Chrome Favored to Win 139th Preakness

California Chrome is expected to win the 139th Preakness Stakes and keep his Triple Crown bid alive. The horse is a 3-5 betting favorite to become the 13th horse since 1978 to win the first two legs of the triple crown.

Betting on heavy favorites like California Chrome is always dangerous, so here are a few other horses that have shot at winning the Preakness

General a Rod was hit hard at the beginning of the Derby and pretty much lost all chance early on. The 15-1 horse is running out of the second position, and ran well in the Florida Derby. He is a quality horse.

Social Inclusion set a track record in winning an allowance race at Gulfstream Park, and he was third in the Wood Memorial. He’s very fast and he could spring an upset. He didn’t run in the Kentucky Derby and has shown an ability to run as fast, perhaps faster, than many of his peers, including the Derby champ.

Ride On Curlin had trouble getting some racing room early in the Kentucky Derby, but did gain a lot of ground late when he finally got free. He is 10-1 and riding from the 10th position.

Bayern is another fast horse looking to get to the front and stay there. After coming down with a sore hoof, Bayern was pulled from the Derby. But trainer Bob Baffert has won the Preakness five times and should have him ready to go. Baffert will remove the blinkers for this start. Bayern has good early speed, and can carry it gate-to-wire.
