Betting Baseball: Seattle Looks for Series Victory in Oakland

Seattle Mariners (+120) at Oakland Athletics (-130, 7.5 O/U )

The Mariners are certainly making things hard for the A’s in Oakland’s race for the playoffs. Seattle won 7-4 yesterday thanks to a five run eighth inning, capped off by a key hit from shortstop Ryan Franklyn. Oakland is now 1.5 games behind Texas in the AL West race. Right-hander Hisashi Iwakuma, 11-6 with a 2.89 earned run average in 2013, will be the starting pitcher for Seattle in their road matchup with the Oakland Athletics. Iwakuma makes his fifth start of the season against the A’s, having gone 2-2 with a 3.96 ERA in four meetings and splitting a pair of games in Oakland. Iwakuma beat Texas 3-1 on Friday to snap a three-start winless streak. He allowed one run in seven innings, striking out seven in the process. The Mariners are 15-11 in games started by Iwakuma, and have gone over 58% of those games.

Right-hander A.J. Griffin will take the mound for the home team. Griffin has allowed 11 walks in 10 2/3 innings over his past two starts after allowing 12 over 64 innings in his previous 10. He limited the Indians to a lone unearned run in five innings his last start, walking five and giving up four hits. “The ball was up in the zone at times, which you don’t normally see out of him, either,” Oakland manager Bob Melvin said. “He battled himself. He was a little frustrated the whole game with his command.”The Athletics are 15-10 in games started by him. Temperatures are expected to be around 66°F at game time today. Humidity will be at 81%, with the wind blowing out to right field at 10 mph.
