Betting Baseball: Lester and the Red Sox Try to Cool Down Hot Dodgers

Boston Red Sox (+113) at Los Angeles Dodgers (-122, 7 O/U )

The Dodgers continue to roll and are now 46-10 over their last 56 games. It looks like the oddsmakers haven’t bought into them yet, however. -122 seems to be a short price for a team like Los Angeles playing at home with one of their top starters going for them. Left-hander Jon Lester takes the mound tonight for the road team Red Sox. He is 11-7 on the year with a 4.09 ERA. Lester is a Dodgers Stadium virgin in his long career; this will be his first career start at Dodger Stadium. He has been throwing well lately, going 3-1 with a 2.52 ERA since the All-Star break. However, the level of competition hasn’t been great. Lester fired 8 1/3 shutout innings in his last start to beat the Giants.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will send Hyun-jin Ryu out as their starter; he has a 12-4 record so far in 2013. Ryu thrives at home this year; he will come into this game with a 1.70 ERA at Dodger Stadium. He gave up three earned runs in seven innings in his last outing, striking out five Marlins while walking just two. The game time temperature will be 83° F with winds blowing out at 9 mph. The humidity will be around 33%. No rain is expected in this game.
