The worst meeting the best. The Miami Marlins, owners of the worst record in baseball at 19-46, welcome the team with the best record in the St. Louis Cardinals (43-23). Right-hander Jose Fernandez is the scheduled starter for the Marlins. He has a 6-6 record in 2013 with a 3.00 ERA. Fernandez added another great chapter to his stellar rookie season, giving up one run on three hits and striking out seven in six innings against the Mets on June 8. He has notched back-to-back quality starts. The have gone over the total in 55% of his starts.
His opponent on the mound will be right-hander Jake Westbrook. Westbrook has a 1.62 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP, and is 2-1 on the season. Westbrook will come off the DL to make his first start since May 8. “I’ve always had elbow issues and I pitched through a lot of it,” Westbrook told MLB.com. “I think I’m always going to have something, some sort of feeling in there that’s not normal.
“I feel really good right now. I feel really good with the two starts I’ve had. I feel really encouraged about getting up and down seven times on Sunday, and hopefully it continues to feel that way throughout the year.”
